R. Mark Hall

I teach Rhetoric, Composition, Literacy Studies, and Creative Nonfiction at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In addition to chairing the Writing, Rhetoric & Digital Studies (WRDS) department here, I've also led writing centers at the University of Central Florida, UNC Charlotte, and California State University, Chico. My research interests include literacy practices in popular culture, teacher and tutor education, writing program administration and assessment, and transfer of learning. 

I'm the author of Around the Texts of Writing Center Work: An Inquiry-Based Approach to Tutor Education, winner of the 2018 International Writing Centers Association (IWCA) Outstanding Book Award. I've published chapters in edited collections and articles in journals such as College English, The Writing Center Journal, WLN: A Journal of Writing Center Scholarship, Composition Forum, and others. 

My creative nonfiction has appeared in The Timberline Review, Lunch Ticket, Sand Hills Literary Magazine, Passengers Journal, Hippocampus Magazine, The Fourth River, and others. A short story appears in The Dillydoun Review.
